Aliaga & Bergama wind farms · Izmir, Türkiye
Wind turbine field service technician
I have been working on wind turbines since 2013 — Enercon, Nordex, Nordex-Acciona and Vestas machines, mechanical and electrical. Tower erection, commissioning, scheduled service, fault finding, and major component exchange with a crane on site. Somewhere past three hundred turbines by now, in enough weather to have an opinion about most of it.

What I actually do
A wind turbine is a power station that has to be serviced 80 metres in the air, in whatever weather the site gives you. The work is part mechanical, part electrical, and mostly diagnostic: something has stopped, and the machine is telling you about it in alarm codes and trend curves rather than words.
My background is mechanical — I started in 2013 erecting Enercon steel-concrete hybrid towers — and the electrical side came from the years after that, on service crews where you are expected to do both. Gearbox, converter, yaw and pitch fault finding; blade inspections; torque and tensioning work; commissioning and the reports that go with it.
I am based in Izmir and currently work the Aliaga and Bergama wind farms for Bilgin Enerji. I have also worked project sites across Europe with international crews, which is where most of my English comes from.

Things I have written and built
Most of what is written about this trade online was written by people who have never been up a tower. These are my attempt at the opposite. All free, no sign-up, and they work offline once you have opened them — which matters at the foot of a tower with no signal.

The Turbine Tech
I run a YouTube channel called The Turbine Tech, in English, about the work itself: what is inside these machines, how the faults show up and what the job is actually like. If you are thinking about this trade, or you already do it and want to compare notes, that is the other place to find me.
