I have been on wind farm sites since 2013, working on the mechanical and electrical systems of Enercon, Nordex, Nordex Acciona and Vestas turbines. Today I am a field service technician with Bilgin Enerji on the Aliağa and Bergama wind farms. On this site I share notes that come from the tower, not from a book.

How I work
Observe, measure, understand, test, solve, learn
Every step is grounded in a real case from my field notes; follow the link to read the whole case.
Observe
I try to recognise a fault by its sound, vibration and heat before the alarm code tells me.

When the control system reading and a physical measurement disagree, I verify the sensor first.

With an intermittent fault I look for the condition it appears in, not the fault itself.
Converter overcurrent →Test
I look at the data before deciding on a part: the vibration spectrum before a blade inspection, a physical measurement of the pitch angle.

I try to fix the problem without stopping production where possible; if needed the turbine keeps running at reduced power until the part arrives.

I take a lesson from every case and share it as a field note. In the pitch motor case the current rise was visible in the SCADA trend 8 months earlier.
