Privacy policy
What this site collects from you, what it does not, and what happens to the little it does. I have kept it short, because there is not much to tell.
The short answer
You do not have to give me anything to read this site. There are no accounts and no logins. The only thing that reaches me is what you type into a form, if you choose to type anything at all.
Visit statistics
Traffic is measured with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies and does no fingerprinting. What I see are aggregate numbers: how many times a page was opened, which countries visitors came from, which browsers they used. I cannot see what any individual did.
Advertising cookies
This site shows ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may show you ads based on your previous visits to this site or to other sites, and they use cookies to do that. I do not set those cookies, I cannot read them, and I pass no information about you to advertisers.
To turn off personalised advertising: Google ad settings. Google’s own explanation of how it uses this data: policies.google.com/technologies/ads. You can also block cookies entirely in your browser settings; the site still works.
Mailing list
If you enter your email address in the form at the end of the training series, that address is stored on Cloudflare’s servers. I use it only to tell you when something new goes up on the site. I do not share it and I do not sell it. To be removed, write to [email protected] and I will delete it.
The question form
If you send a question through the “ask” page, the text of that question reaches me and is stored. To stop one person flooding the form, an irreversible hash (SHA-256) of your IP address is kept; the address itself is never recorded. If I publish your question on the site, I publish the question and my answer, never your name or your address.
Glossary searches
When a glossary search returns nothing, the word you searched for is added to a counter. The point is to find out which terms are missing so I can write them. Nothing beyond the word itself is stored: not who searched, not from where, not when.
Links that leave this site
The site embeds a YouTube video (in its privacy-enhanced form), carries affiliate links to Udemy, and calls the Open-Meteo service for wind data. When you follow those links, or when that content loads, the privacy rules of the company in question apply. More on the affiliate links: ad and revenue policy.
What stays in your browser
Your progress through the training series is kept in your own browser; it never reaches me. Clear your browser data and that progress goes with it.
Your rights
If there is a record of you here — in practice that can only be your email address or a question you sent — you may ask what it is, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to me and it is done: [email protected]
